Relay for Life

July 18, 2012

Once a year, the university gets as involved as possible in spreading awareness about cancer and the way it affects both those who have been diagnosed, and their loved ones who surround them. Relay4Life is a 12 hour relay which takes place in Carleton’s Field House, an athletic building home to the 230 meter long jogging track. All night and morning each participating team has members walking or running the track. Beginning at 7pm with presentations from those affected by cancer, survivors themselves and a speech from Carleton’s president, and ending at 7am the next morning, participants get a chance to celebrate the funds that have been raised and awareness for the cause.

The night’s activities consisted of mini golf, sumo-suit wrestling, blow-up castle races, football, basketball, zumba and yoga classes and an Amazing Race! Lots of fun was had, and $50 in Chapter’s gift cards were won by Eva & KC who won 1st place in the Amazing race after scavenger hunts, 3-legged races, sumo wrestling, rope-toe battles and more – congrats!

Since September, the participating teams have been fundraising consistently towards an aggregate sum of over $71,000!! Absolutely unreal. This year’s relay funding accounts don’t close until the end of April, so that number is climbing higher and higher by the day. We are trying to exceed $81,000 and be the student body with the highest amount of money raised in 2 semesters for Relay4Life in the country. Let’s go Carleton!

With a solid crew of about 30 girls, and two teams, we’ve raised over $1200, with the number increasing on the daily. See you next year, relay!
